Why trust building is so important?

If you look into any team success story, there you can visualize effective teamwork; where trust had its influence. Each member of the team must show trust, cultivate trust through his actions and words, and work to keep up. Each member must able to trust his team members with a commitment to work for the goals; trust emphasizes a phase to work competently with those goals and communicate consistently about any issues that affect the team.
There are very important 5 Cs in any team work and they are :

1st 'C' - "Commitment"

Commitment is an important part of trust. Every team member must commit to help teammates to meet the goals of the team -- irrespective of personal or professional obstacles present themselves. For example, a team member who has to take an extended amount of sick leave, must try to work from home as much as possible.  Team members should rely on one another to do their part of the team's work without fail. Each team member should aware of the harmful consequences of not following through on commitments.

2nd  ‘C’ –“Competence”

Core competence is second biggest point in achieving success; whether it is for person or a team. Team members must trust that their teammates are competent enough to  complete the assigned tasks successfully.  For example, each team member must focus on an assigned task, without worrying about teammates following through, with their assigned tasks. Individual team members must realize when they need help and ask for it, instead of concealing their weaknesses among the group. When team members show vulnerability to their teammates, in response the  team mates help an efficient to complete the task. Hence trust will grow between them.
3rd ‘C’-Communication”
Meaningful consistent communication is necessary for a trusting relationship within a team. For example, if a team member finishes  assigned task early, he should communicate tell other team mates that his task is complete and he can help another member if necessary. Vital information such as a deadline change or a lack of resources, etc would be communicated in the team as soon as possible. People working within virtual teams,  need to make an effort to keep all members within the loop. Let us understand it with an example, a member of a team receives an information, he should send such information to all team members in time; If he doesn't it may result in delayed productivity. Message shared over a group-email or use of an online tool is necessary to communicate with every member. Team members who receive communication from other team members should always reciprocate to build trust.

4th ‘C’- “Collaboration”

True collaboration takes place only when a sense of trust between team members established. 'Collaborate' means joint, collective, co-operation, teaming-up, etc. When team members collaborate, they share creative ideas without fear that another team member will take credit for their ideas. A team member who feels trusting team environment, might work more to bring up concerns that are relevant to the team's goals.  Collaborative and trusting team environment allows team members to share personal information within the team and develops a stronger bond with their teammates.

Final  Key Points

  • Trust is an essential element in team productivity; Without it, you're unlikely to get anything meaningful done. But with it, teams can carry out everything they set out to do.
  • It is important to a leader that he set himself as an example, showing  team members, demonstrating his trust in them, as well as in his colleagues.
  • An effort be made to help everyone get to know each other on a personal level, encourage conversations, family values or hobbies  made by each team member. It also helps to discourage cliques, if you feel that they're damaging to the group's trust and morale.

Basics of Body Language

Many a times we get a work done without talking to the people we see face to face. Our eyes, eye brows, hands, legs, body posture makes up our actions and that is understood by the people we face or vice-verse.

Say, there are two persons belongs two different languages & each of them doesn’t know the other language.  Among these two, one is very thirsty & in need of drinking water; the other one seems to be carrying the water bottle along; how man in thirsty can express this to the other? Difference between the words people speak and our understanding of what they are saying comes from non-verbal communication, otherwise known as "body language."  Awareness of the signs and signals of body language & its utilization can more easily understand by other people, and those who know perfect body language can more effectively communicate with them.

There are sometimes subtle – and sometimes not so subtle – movements, gestures, facial expressions and even shifts in our whole bodies.  Movements & gestures or facial expressions indicate something is going on. The way we talk, walk, sit and stand all say something about us, and whatever is happening on the inside can be reflected outside; and the man in the dire need of drinking water in the above said example, will show his thumb towards his own mouth, bending rest of the fingers towards palm] Aware of this body language and understanding what it might mean, you can learn to read people more easily. If you are aware of body language, you can live for days without knowing the language of the people around. In a sense it is universal language.

Modern physiological thesis says: eyes of the people can produce about 265 different views from within.  People looking at you can understand many things merely by looking into your eyes. That is how we describe love, anguish, anxiety, jealous and all such feelings are expressed by eyes. If you how to use your eye contacts, that can put you in a better position to communicate effectively with the people around. What's more, by increasing your understanding of others, you can also become more aware of the messages that you convey to them.

Body signs works on our senses level rather than the rest which we can say outer messages.  A girl may not express that she needs a hug from her boyfriend; but her boyfriend can sense it taking a deep look into her eyes.  Man working under a boss can sense his angriness  just by looking at his eyes. There are times when we send mixed messages – we say one thing yet our body language reveals something different; this is very common at some places where people expect bribe to get the works done.  This non-verbal language will affect how we act and react to others, and how they react to us.

Home is where the heart is

“Home is where the heart is”, is perhaps a saying that comes to many a people’s mind when they think of constructing a house.Approaching a professional expert in buildings, can add value to your house says Architect PrashanthNandiprasad.
“An architect is an artist who follows his instincts guided by the insights of the Client”

What is it that people dream of when they think and want to build a house? When does a house… become a home? These are some of the basic questions that an architect of a house needs to work on when approached for his professional services.

Apart from budgetary considerations, the psyche of the owner who is getting the house built needs to be understood. The architect has to consider the clients’ spatial requirements, their likes & dislikes, what their spouse is looking for, (which can often surprisingly be very contrasting to the clients’ needs), specific views and sometimes wayward opinions of other family members (viz. children / elders / sometimes well-wishers /family friends etc.), while designing a house. The immense level of patience required to listen to the client is a quality that an architect ought to possess and nurture.

Sometimes it may be difficult for clients to express what they are looking for in a house. Trying to understand the thoughts and aspirations of the client is an art in itself, to say the least.  An experienced architect can read the client’s mind and assess what they are trying to communicate.  While drawing up the designs, (read drawings & sketches), the architect has to marry all these requirements, expressed or otherwise in a harmonious way, often within a specific budget. An architect is an artist who follows his instincts guided by the insights of the client.

When engaging in a project, architects also have their own agenda, their own likes / dislikes to certain form &styles. They can relate to certain taste they have acquired, to a certain language of expression they may have evolved or developed over the years, which they lend to the project. A completed building form expresses & communicates to the viewer in a certain visual manner. Often the architect would have foreseen this while conceiving the project for their client.

Clients need to understand that although they are approaching an architect to design their house, they are also entrusting and respecting a professional in rendering services they cannot have done themselves. And often the value addition an architect does to a client / project is manifold than the fees they have been paid for. An experienced architect can also advise or read legal documents / rent - lease agreements, prepare civil / budgetary project estimates for bank loans, draw up building sanction drawings based on the finalized design, know how building structural loads work while engagingwith a structural engineer, foresee / supervise a building construction &advice if the various civil elements are being executed with good construction practices, design a building with the interior / furniture layout in place, select building material & suggest their harmonious integrity with colours& textures from other surrounding material, select essential furnishing components (such as light fixtures / upholstery / furniture etc.), make an artistic visual statement with the overall shape / form & structure of the building etc.

Many a times, clients are unaware of practical situations that might affect the construction of an ideal space. Architects by virtue of their training & experience foresee such issues, (be in about the lifespan of materials / construction issues / client’s spatial requirements / current budgets / future expansion etc.), that can affect the outcome of the building process.Often in the process of drawing up the designs for a project, the architect exchanges ideas and educates the client about the design aspects, while sharing his thoughts on how the house should be. The concept of space, lighting (both natural & artificial), climate and nature etc., themselves play an integral part in influencing the sketch plans of a project. The architect represents his vision through these sketches and explains to the client through drawings, renderings etc.  The client on his part checks if these plans & designs are shaping up as per their requirements & needs. This often long drawn, back & forth process is known as the “Design Development” in the professional parlance. Any design based profession such as Product Design, Interior Design, Landscape Design, Furniture Design etc. is a patient, but a vastly rewarding experience to both the parties involved.

“My house should hug me when I walk in…”was apparently a statement my father-in-law said to his architect, when he was building his farm house many years ago. One can only appreciate an evolved client, who could have said such a statement to his architect.  And looking back at the completed house, one can appreciate how this intimacy with the built form, the architect has made it possible.
